This new exciting part of PerformerZone was launched in September 2005.
We combine professional training with performance opportunities in
public theatres in Brighton and Hove.
So far we have produced 5 shows
('Beauty And The Beast', 'I Wanna Be Bad', 'Feather Boy' and 'Pass It
On' and most recently HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL)
PERFORMERZONE - for young people (normally aged 14
-25 years old), provides a unique training ground for the future
generation of professionals.
Students work with the best West End and RSC
professional performers, who also teach students at the top London Drama
and Musical Theatre Academies. This offers an exciting alternative to both
schools' drama training and local amateur theatre companies. A
stepping-stone for future professionals.
An excellent training in all performance arts (the 'triple threat' of
singing, dancing and acting skills) on a weekly basis - with workshops,
classes and rehearsals - is combined with regular opportunities to perform both
plays and musicals in public theatre spaces in the Brighton and Hove area.
All performances are directed and choreographed by the best professional
practitioners. This provides an exciting and stimulating direct link with
the professional market place - an excellent way to train up for drama
school... Or just to develop your performing arts skills and have a great
time.
Our first production was the Royal
Shakespeare Company's exciting dramatic telling of
'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST'
at The Pavilion
Theatre, The Dome, Brighton on December 11th 2005 co-directed by RSC actor Gary Sefton
- who played the
Beast in the original production at Stratford - and Pete Harris. This was a
sell-out success and set an impressive standard for the on-going group of
players.
Then, in April 2006 after holding further competitive auditions to find a
talented cast of 11 - 19 year olds, we produced 'FEATHER BOY
- THE MUSICAL' shows.html- based on the award winning novel by Brighton
author Nicky Singer. This exciting new musical was presented at The Old
Market, Hove, in April 2006, as part of The National Theatre 'Shell
Connections' Nationwide Youth Theatre project. This was a major triumph
and we sold over 800 tickets! We also presented the new play 'PASS IT ON'
shows.htmlby Doug Lucie with a talented
cast aged 14 - 21 year olds, with much success, at The Nightingale Theatre, Surrey
Street, Brighton BN1. Both these productions were highly commended by the
National Theatre adjudicators who visited our productions to give their
assessments.
WHAT THE NATIONAL THEATRE
ADJUDICATOR SAID ... "This was something special ... unique to
this production of Feather Boy was the cohesion, energy and incisiveness
of the ensemble, managing to stay in character and perform the very
professional choreography at the same time. The final stage
sequence into the curtain call would have put to shame many so-called
professional casts. Only the keyboard was amplified, but all voices were
always clear and true - a tribute to their articulation and projection.
One of the most enthusiastic audience responses I have ever seen in 'Shell
Connections', and it was perfectly clear that PerformerZone is committed
in every aspect of theatre" ...
WELL DONE TO THE TALENTED
CAST!
In May and June 2006 we held
weekly workshops in Audition Technique, Acting For Camera, Silent Movies,
Clowning, Irish Dancing and... finally : 'A Chorus Line' choreographed
excerpts.
